“Through completing the programme the young people at Newfriars College have had the opportunity to consider how to deliver a speech effectively and with confidence. The mentors could see the confidence growing over the course of the programme.
The programme allowed for a focus on the theme of 'advocacy' which for young adults with SEND enabled them to identify and create a speech around a range of topics as diverse as accessible buses, equality of access to sporting opportunities, living with Autism and the importance of the opportunity to learn in a specialist college.
The speaking out forum programme provided a valuable opportunity for our young people to find confidence in speaking out about issues that are of importance to them as young adults with SEND.
The final presentation was a celebration of the journey our young people went on as they grew in confidence to speak out in front of an audience.
A huge thank you to Simone and the Speaking Out team for their expert support of our young people.”
