IT'S TIME FOR EVERY VOICE TO BE HEARD
Speaking Out Forum is a small charity whose vision is a society where young adults with disabilities, learning difficulties, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds have an equal voice in society to speak and to be heard.
Our aim is to empower our programme participants to speak in public by developing their communication skills whilst simultaneously enriching their daily and working lives, enabling them to make a contribution to society and to advocate for themselves and their peers.
To achieve this, we provide a public speaking programme, which builds self-confidence and wellbeing. The programme is designed and led by professionals passionate about what they do, from backgrounds across the education and charity sectors and with skills and experience gained from working in supportive learning environments.
We work with partner organisations across the education and charity sectors, in collaboration with mentors and carers, to deliver core skills and techniques for public speaking, to a diverse range of participants. The core programme of modules develops the necessary skills and techniques to speak out confidently in public.
We employ best practice techniques, approaches, and tools, enabling participants to confidently deliver a short speech to family, friends, and peers, at the end of the programme, irrespective of disability or learning difficulty.
We celebrate the achievement of each participant by giving them an opportunity to speak in public at the end of programme Celebration Event and by presenting them with a certificate and medal to recognize their achievement.
"Working with Speaking Out Forum has been an overwhelming success and has helped to build the skills and confidence of young adults in our local community, allowing them to enjoy a greater number of opportunities both in their working and personal lives."
"I enjoyed learning how to not only teach others how to be better public speakers, but also how to help them become more confident and to be proud of themselves, rather than shy away."
"After taking the Speaking Out Forum course, I was invited by Mencap to go to Parliament and speak up on a disability issue"
